The Scarlet Witch Enters Peach Momoko’s Universe in ‘Demon Wars: Scarlet Sin’ #1 Preview

The epic finale to the DEMON WARS saga starts in these pages!  

This May, DEMON WARS: SCARLET SIN #1 will kick off the conclusion to Marvel Stormbreaker Peach Momoko’s DEMON WARS, the follow up to her highly acclaimed DEMON DAYS series. Both series enthralled fans with Momoko’s seamless blending of Japanese folklore with elements of the Marvel Universe.  

In the DEMON WARS saga, Mariko found herself at the heart of the Ikai, the spirit world. There, she was caught in the crossfires of two warring yokai factions. One faction is led by Bake-yoroi, a sentient suit of armor, and the other by Yamato, a shield-wielding warrior, in a nod to the iconic CIVIL WAR between Captain America and Iron Man.  

In the last pages of DEMON WARS: DOWN IN FLAMES #1, Momoko revealed that Yamato was being manipulated by Momiji, the Scarlet Hannya. This take on the Scarlet Witch is inspired by the Hannya masks from Noh theater. “Hannya in Japan is used in Noh theater to represent a woman’s anger and jealousy, and these vengeful spirits turn her into a demon,” explains Momoko. 

In the first preview page for DEMON WARS: SCARLET SIN #1, Mariko is introduced to Momiji, whose mask falls to the ground. The following page displays a conflict between Mariko and Yamato, with Momiji looming in the background. On another page, a watery landscape envelops both Mariko and the Scarlet Hannya. The final page shows Kigandoshi speaking to Mariko, his descendant.
