Krakoa fell. The island nation that once promised a new beginning for all of mutankind came to a burning end at the hands of Orchis, the anti-mutant organization. Orchis struck during the annual Hellfire Gala and mutantkind had to forgo the paradise they built. Now, in the ashes of the Krakoan Era, mutants are scattered and dispersed around the world.
As the X-Men regroup and rebuild, find out what brings these different mutant factions to a head as they both embark on a collision course set for Graymalkin Prison. Here’s everything you need to know about "Raid on Graymalkin," the 4-issue crossover happening in the pages of X-MEN and UNCANNY X-MEN.
The Alaska X-Men
In X-MEN (2024) #1 by Jed MacKay and Ryan Stegman, Cyclops started regrouping in Alaska. Operating out of a former Sentinel factory, Scott Summers assembled a new team of X-Men: Magneto, Beast, Psylocke, Temper, Magik, Kid Omega, and the unstoppable Juggernaut. The team takes to the skies aboard their skull-bearing ship the Maurader, a relic from the Krakoan Age, to protect mutantkind.
When the X-Men investigated the sudden appearance of new mutants, they unearthed the shadowy organization known as 3K, which triggered mutations in adult humans. And to make matters worse, it appears that Cassandra Nova is somehow involved…
The Louisiana X-Men
In UNCANNY X-MEN (2024) #1 by Gail Simone and David Marquez, Sarah Gaunt, a claw-bearing witch, hunted a group of young mutants known as the Outliers. Terrified, they sought out the X-Men only to find a reluctant Rogue, Gambit, and Wolverine.
Joined by Nightcrawler and Jubilee, these veteran X-Men took the young mutants under their wing and did what they know best: teach. Led by Rogue, this team of X-Men trained the Outliers on the Louisiana property of Gambit’s old ally and friend, Marcus.
What is Graymalkin Prison?
With anti-mutant sentiment at an all-time high in the wake of the Fall of X, the former Xavier Institute became a fortified prison for mutants known as Graymalkin. Led by Doctor Corina Ellis, Graymalkin Prison not only captured mutants, but tortured and weaponized them too. Doctor Ellis unleashed these mutants, known as the Graymalkin Trustees, to do her bidding.
Recently in X-MEN #7, Ellis’ forces abducted Beast and additionally apprehended Jubilee and the young Outlier, Calico, in UNCANNY X-MEN #6. But these X-Men are not the only notable prisoners at Graymalkin. Beneath the walls of the former school, trapped in a high-security cell, Doctor Ellis holds a mutant captive, dubbed Inmate X.
What happened to Charles Xavier after the Fall of X?
Orchis once believed machines to be mankind’s answer to mutantkind. However, the machines had an agenda of their own: the total eradication of human life and the domination of artificial intelligence.
When Nimrod, the ever-adaptable Sentinel, turned on his human creators and utilized Orchis to push the machine agenda, Charles Xavier abandoned his dream of cooperating with mankind. In a desperate bid to save mutants, Professor X agreed to work with Nimrod on the condition that Orchis spared Krakoa in FALL OF THE HOUSE OF X #4 by Gerry Duggan, Lucas Werneck, and Jethro Morales.
This betrayal not only turned Xavier into a criminal in the eyes of mankind, but also gained the ire of his fellow mutants. When the X-Men defeated Orchis, Xavier was tried for his crimes and imprisoned.
Now, during a rescue mission at Graymalkin Prison, Rogue and Cyclops must ask themselves if they are willing to free Charles Xavier. What happens if they disagree? Find out in UNCANNY X-MEN #7, available now.
