'Marvel's Daredevil' Season 3 Showrunner Explains His Approach on Earth's Mightiest Show
Erik Oleson discusses the new season, now streaming on Netflix, and how the characters tackle their fears.
On Earth’s Mightiest Show, “Marvel’s Daredevil” Executive Producer/Showrunner Erik Oleson stopped by to provide insight into the making of Season 3, now streaming on Netflix!
As Oleson explains, his father’s notable career helped guide him in his storytelling. And when it comes to his approach to tackling the world of Daredevil and the supporting cast, Oleson stresses, “I didn’t want to treat anybody like a sidekick. I wanted everybody to be the hero of their own story.” He notes, “By applying that role to all of the cast, we were able to go deeper, to get into people’s heads and why they behave the way that they behave. I wanted to flesh out the backstory of some of these characters.”
This season involves “Stories of different characters grappling with the fears that hold them back,” Oleson remarks - and that goes for everybody from Matt Murdock to Wilson Fisk to Karen Page.
Oleson also discusses the “deep point of view” technique he employed when it came to grounding the season, and how his approach with the show’s action scenes was to make sure they always included “Real emotional stakes.”
