Experimental cosmetics testing turns the canine Wade Wilson into Dogpool, Merc with a Bark and a wicked fast healing factor.
Animal Testing
Hailing from alternate Earth-103173, the dog known as Wade Wilson likes to bark at all hours of the night and chew shoes, and as such is not considered a good boy. Wilson undergoes experimental cosmetics testing led by scientists Dr. Von Braun and Eigor for project Mascara-X, a cosmetic treatment that regenerates mascara forever, though it leaves Wilson in a seemingly wretched and deformed state. Seeing their subject as worthless garbage, Eigor tosses Wilson in the trash heap outside their lab. It is here that Wilson recovers, thanks to newfound healing abilities, and escapes. He re-enters the world as a being of power known as Deadpool: Merc with a Bark, with Uatu the Watcher and Earth-616’s Wade Wilson, AKA Deadpool, as witnesses, watching from on high.
Wilson wanders around, experiencing inhospitable treatment and hostile mobs out to kill him. Hungry, Wilson grows desperate and throws himself in front of a car that strikes him down, seemingly dead to the world. Local circus folk pull over to care for the poor canine and take him in. When they discover his indestructible nature, they exploit the dog's power, giving him the name “Deadpool, the Daredevil Dog.”
Death-Defying Hound
With regeneration powers, there’s nothing that Wilson cannot survive. His increased durability makes him nigh-immortal. His dog physiology, replete with claws and sharp teeth, gives him the upper paw against his foes.
Frequent Foes
Dr. Von Braun and his assistant Eigor experiment on Wilson, changing him into a deformed dog with healing abilities. Unaware of the latter, they toss him aside but soon track him down, fully realizing his value. They attempt to take him back and fail only to recreate their experiment on another mutt.
Abandoned and shunned by the world, Wilson soon meets his match in Dr. Braun's next experiment: a powerful pooch by the name of Wolverine. Though Wilson outsmarts him and escapes his new nemesis.
Mercenary Pals
Wilson learns all he can from the circus folk that take him in, though dying over and over again wears on his mind. When Earth-616’s Deadpool liberates him from the life of a stunt dog, Wilson finds a family of like-minded individuals: the Deadpool Corps. He soon leads the life of a mercenary, out to protect the Multiverse, alongside Corps members Wade Wilson, AKA Headpool (Earth-2149), Wanda Wilson, AKA Lady Deadpool (Earth-3010), and Wade Wilson, AKA Kidpool (Earth-10330), with Deadpool leading the team.
The Dogpool Days
During his time in the circus performing death-defying stunts, Wilson wondered if his life was blessed or cursed, and often questioned his reality. Word of this immortal dog got out and soon Dr. Braun and Eigor came to see this nigh-immortal hound known as Deadpool. One night after the show ended, Deadpool was approached by Dr. Braun, Eigor and their dreaded sack but the canine recognized these evil-doers as the ones responsible for his strange state and attacked them. The cowardly pair ran, leaving Deadpool behind. Deadpool was soon confronted by Wolverine, another Braun experiment and unstoppable dog replete with adamantium claws. Dr. Braun entered his experiment into the circus ring, claiming Wolverine would be the death of Deadpool. Deadpool fought Wolverine and tricked him into a cannon and propelled him from it, winning the fight. Earth-616’s Deadpool suddenly arrived through a portal and claimed that their daredevil pooch was needed to help other worlds.
Wilson soon joined other Deadpool variants from across the Multiverse in the Deadpool Corps, and became known as Dogpool. Charged with protecting the Multiverse from Tryco Slatterus, AKA Champion, and En Dwi Gast, AKA Grandmaster, Dogpool and his compatriots faced off with their foes and won.
When his newfound family was attacked by the Evil Deadpool Corps and as they attempted to kill Earth-616’s Wade, Dogpool sacrificed himself to save his beloved teammate.
Later, surviving another death, Dogpool teamed up with Catpool and Mousepool against Marvel Comics Editorial as they brainstormed other Petpools that would leave them in the lurch. After their attack, the Editorial team relented and agreed to give Dogpool, Catpool and Mousepool monthly comics forever. The trio signed official contracts to boot.
