Biography

Corvus Glaive is the leader of an elite group of alien beings gathered together by Thanos called the Black Order. He serves as the right-hand man of the Mad Titan himself. With his legendary namesake blade, Corvus’s ultimate goal is to acquire the Infinity Stones and return them to Thanos to reform the Infinity Gauntlet.

Lieutenant of Thanos

Corvus Glaive was one of a small cadre of ruthless warriors recruited directly by Thanos to do his bidding. Dubbed the Black Order, most are members of the same family: Corvus, his wife Proxima Midnight, and his brother Black Dwarf.

Glaive was named the chief lieutenant of Thanos, and early on, he forced planets subjugated by his master to offer tribute to the Mad Titan. Corvus’ first mission on Earth was to search for Thanos’ wayward son, Thane, as a first step toward conquering the planet.

The Weapon is in His Name

True to his name, Corvus wields a mighty cosmic glaive that appears to be the source of much of his power. The blade’s edge is so sharp that it can cleave atoms in two. It can cut even the toughest skin, including the Hulk’s and Hyperion’s. As long as the glaive is not destroyed, Corvus can regenerate from any lethal attack, even one that reduces him to nearly nothing.

As the battle general for Thanos’ forces, Corvus is a master strategist and tactician. He also possesses strength, endurance, and speed far beyond even the strongest human.

Enemies of the Black Order

The Avengers are the sworn enemies of Corvus and the Black Order. As Glaive seeks the Infinity Stones, he encounters fierce opposition from Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. And when Corvus is resurrected to battle the Lethal Legion as pawns of the Elders of the Universe, the Avengers are caught in the middle.

Minions of Thanos

Corvus’s chief ally is Thanos himself. He considers Thanos to be his chosen deity and would die for him in a heartbeat. Anything that Thanos asks for, Corvus will carry out without question. Corvus is also loyal to his wife, Proxima Midnight, and his brother, Black Dwarf. If forced to choose, however, Corvus would pick Thanos first and foremost every time.

Right-Hand Man

Corvus located Thane in Greenland among a secret tribe of Inhumans called the Orollan, whom Thane had unwittingly annihilated when his powers first manifested. Thanos wished to kill Thane personally, but Hyperion stood in his way and seemingly killed Corvus.

Thanos wished to kill Thane personally, but Hyperion stood in his way and seemingly killed Corvus.

Thane imprisoned the surviving Proxima Midnight along with Corvus’s glaive, which was all that was left of him. Because Corvus was effectively immortal, he slowly returned to life with the assistance of Maximus the Mad.

Namor, now expelled from the Illuminati for destroying an alternate Earth that was threatening the prime reality, freed Corvus, Proxima, and Thanos from Thane’s prison and recruited him to his new team, the Cabal, in order to destroy other threatening incursions. The Cabal members thrilled in the wholesale slaughter they were able to commit before destroying the Earths.

Eventually, Namor regretted having formed the Cabal and conspired with the Illuminati to both turn himself in and to dissolve the out-of-control team of villains. The Illuminati planted an anti-matter injector on an Earth that was part of another incursion and betrayed Namor at the last minute, leaving him to die with the rest of the Cabal.

Some quick thinking and fast-talking allowed Namor to convince Corvus and the other Cabal members that he was not at fault and the group escaped to the Ultimate Universe, which was part of the same incursion. Because that universe was dying, the Cabal crafted a cosmic life raft that would allow them to survive the collapsing multiverse.

The Cabal awoke on Battleworld—an artificial environment created by Doctor Doom for him to rule over that consisted of pieces of many other universes. Eventually, Corvus and Proxima were captured by Doom and tortured until the universe was recreated by Mr. Fantastic.

Corvus used a moon called the Black Quadrant as his home base and began to amass power.

While Thanos was momentarily absent from this recreated universe, Corvus’ influence began to spread throughout the galaxy, thanks to his own Black Order. He used a moon called the Black Quadrant as his home base and began to amass power. Thanos’ return put an end to that, as he easily defeated Corvus and gave him the choice of death at the Titan’s hand or at his own. Glaive took his own life as a result.

Corvus and the other members of the Black Order were then revived by the Challenger, an Elder of the Universe, in order for them to fight against the Grandmaster’s Lethal Legion on Earth, with only the Avengers standing in their way. To antagonize the Avengers, the Black Order destroyed Avengers Mansion, although the heroes teleported to safety.

After the Human Torch appeared to die as part of this brutal contest, Rogue attacked Corvus Glaive, absorbed his powers, and attempted to kill him. The villain was revived again, and after the Avengers won the conflict, Glaive and the other members of the Black Order escaped Earth.
