The Musical Super Heroes of the Marvel Universe

Defending the Marvel Universe is hard work, but many of Earth's Mightiest Heroes enjoy careers outside of their heroics. In fact, a surprising number of Marvel super heroes have found significant success as professional musicians even as they keep the world safe from harm. From bubblegum pop stars to punk rockers and everything in between, here are the biggest Marvel superstars whose tunes hit as hard as their punches.

DAZZLER

First up: the Marvel Universe's brightest super hero star! Alison Blaire, better known to her legions of adoring fans as Dazzler, started out as a disco singer for her debut in UNCANNY X-MEN (1963) #130. She quickly launched her own successful series as a solo super hero leading an enormously popular musical career. Deriving her ability to convert sound into light from her mutation, Dazzler is most often linked to the X-Men and their related teams even as she headlines as a pop star.

As a musician, Dazzler uses her powers to create an awe-inspiring light show that leaves her fans overwhelmed by the blend of music and vibrant visuals. Dazzler can also use these abilities to create force fields and other light projections that defend others from all sorts of harm. Since the fall of Krakoa, Dazzler has used her musical career to provide a safe space for mutants to come together and celebrate their species.

LILA CHENEY

Dazzler isn't the only mutant super hero with a successful musical career! British rocker Lila Cheney boasts a huge fan base spanning multiple planets. Lila made her debut in NEW MUTANTS ANNUAL (1984) #1, where the team protected her from an interstellar assassination attempt at one of her concerts. Lila ran into the New Mutants often after this first meeting, leader her to form an on-again/off-again romance with Cannonball.

Lila's mutant powers are linked to her musical background, as she is able to teleport herself anywhere her voice has been. Given the intergalactic and interdimensional reach of her music, this means she can transport herself to countless locations across the cosmos. Often based out of a Dyson sphere, Lila recently teamed up with Ms. Marvel in MS. MARVEL: MUTANT MENACE (2024) #2, where they took on the villainous Mojo after the super villain tried to force Lila to perform a concert in the Mojoverse.

LUNA SNOW

The Marvel Universe's most successful K-Pop star, Luna Snow gained her cryogenic powers while defending her fans from an A.I.M. attack at one of her concerts. After initially making her debut in the Marvel Future Fight mobile game, Luna was introduced to the comics starting in WAR OF THE REALMS: NEW AGENTS OF ATLAS (2019) #1.

In addition to her activities as a solo hero and K-Pop star, Luna also serves as a prominent member of both the Agents of Atlas and the South Korean super hero team Tiger Division. Luna's powers allow her to create dark ice, which can be used offensively against enemies, and light ice, which she can use to heal herself and others around her. Luna played an especially pivotal role in WAR OF THE REALMS (2019), where she defended East Asia from the invading armies led by Malekith and prevented them from destroying the North Pole.

GHOST-SPIDER

After she was bitten by a radioactive spider, Gwen Stacy of Earth-65 became one of the most prominent Spider-Heroes to save the Multiverse from EDGE OF SPIDER-VERSE (2014). While defending Earth-65, Gwen finished high school and served as the high-energy drummer of a local punk rock band known as the Mary Janes. The Mary Janes stuck together after its members completed high school, with the band's bassist Betty Brant moving into a small apartment with Gwen.

Because of Gwen's super hero double life as Ghost-Spider, the Mary Janes are occasionally drawn into her perilous antics, sometimes with major consequences. Gwen eventually revealed her secret identity to her bandmates in SPIDER-GWEN (2015) #28. Finding solace in beating the drums, Gwen's musical identity remains an important part of who she is.

SPIDER-PUNK

Ghost-Spider isn't the only Spider-Verse hero with their own musical career. Hailing from Earth-138, Hobart "Hobie" Brown debuted in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (2014) #10 as a hero whose powers emerged from President Norman Osborn's rampant pollution. Expanding his punk rock philosophy to his super hero persona, Hobie became Spider-Punk, an enemy to all corrupt forms of authority in the Multiverse.

A consummate man of the people, Spider-Punk unmasked himself after successfully toppling President Osborn's regime on Earth-138. In between his super hero activities, Hobie incorporates his Spider-Punk persona into his prolific punk rock career as a guitar player and singer. With his devil-may-care attitude and flagrant disregard for authority, Spider-Punk embodies the punk rock ethos in all aspects of his life.

RICK JONES

Across his semi-charmed life, Rick Jones befriended Bruce Banner shortly after he first became the Hulk and went on to help create the Avengers—if only by accident. Rick has even become a hero himself on multiple occasions, whether briefly serving as a sidekick to Captain America or transforming into the gamma-radiated superhero A-Bomb. While linked to Mar-Vell—the original Captain Marvel—through the Nega-Bands, Rick pursued a musical career, going as far as to perform on Saturday Night in MARVEL TEAM-UP (1972) #74.

When Rick debuted in INCREDIBLE HULK (1962) #1, he was a big rockabilly music fan; he even played Buddy Holly songs before his fateful encounter with Bruce Banner. For his own music, Rick leans into a singer-songwriter style, playing both the guitar and harmonica. Though Rick's musical aspirations took a backseat as his life grew more chaotic from his connection to super heroes, his talent remains a foundational part of his character.

DARLA DEERING

As the Fantastic Four planned a prolonged journey to search for a way to cure their cosmic ray exposure sickness, Reed Richards tasked his family with finding suitable replacements in their absence. The first person Johnny Storm could get to agree to this outrageous request was his latest fling: pop star sensation Darla Deering. Darla took on the moniker of Miss Thing and donned a powerful exosuit through use of her Thing Rings, which were designed by Reed and resembled the Thing's rocky form.

As an acting member of the Fantastic Four, Darla quickly proved more than capable of being a super hero starting in FANTASTIC FOUR (2012) #2. In between fighting otherworldly threats and looking after the Future Foundation, Darla struck up a romance with Scott Lang, who Reed chose as his temporary replacement. Following the Fantastic Four's return, Darla resumed her enormously successful pop music career, leading to an awkward reunion with Scott in THE ASTONISHING ANT-MAN (2015) #2.
